New Era University Celebrates 49 Years with Scholarly Launches and Museum Opening

New Era University (NEU) marked its 49th Founding Anniversary with a grand celebration at the University Library, unveiling two significant scholarly publications—Likha and Kaningningan journals—and a notable book of poetry, T(u)LASTASAN. The event was complemented by the soft opening of the NEU Museum and a strategic planning session titled NEU @50.

The academic community gathered in the grand hall of the University Library, eagerly anticipating the introduction of the publications. The LIKHA Journal launch was spearheaded by Dr. Luzale Henson and Brother Julie Gregorio, the director of the University Research Center. Dr. Henson highlighted the journal’s commitment to fostering innovative research and creative outputs across various disciplines, while Brother Gregorio introduced the online version of the journal, making it accessible through the University Research Center’s website. This digital initiative aims to broaden the journal’s reach and impact, aligning with the university’s mission to promote knowledge dissemination in the digital age.

Dr. Vicente Villan led the launch of the Kaningningan Journal, which centers on the theme “Ekspresibong Kultura, Sining Bayan, at Pamanang Bayan sa Pagsasakasaysayan” (Expressive Culture, People’s Art, and Heritage in Historicizing). Dr. Villan emphasized the journal’s role in showcasing the rich cultural heritage and literary achievements of the Filipino people. His address underscored the importance of preserving and celebrating the country’s diverse cultural narratives, which are meticulously documented within the pages of Kaningningan.

The book of poetry, T(u)LASTASAN, was introduced by Brother Ezzard Gilbang, who highlighted its focus on critical discourse and the artistic expression of contemporary issues. T(u)LASTASAN aims to provide a platform for poets to engage in rigorous intellectual and creative discussions, fostering a culture of critical thinking and literary excellence at NEU.

In addition to the publication launches, the event featured the soft opening of the NEU Museum. The museum aims to preserve and exhibit the historical artifacts and significant milestones of New Era University, offering visitors a glimpse into the institution’s rich history and contributions to the academic world.

The anniversary celebration also included a strategic planning session titled NEU @50, where university officials, faculty, and stakeholders engaged in discussions about the future direction of NEU as it approaches its 50th year. The planning session focused on enhancing the university’s educational programs, expanding research initiatives, and strengthening community engagement.

University President Dr. Alberto R. Domingo expressed his gratitude to the NEU community for their unwavering support and dedication. “As we celebrate our 49th Founding Anniversary, we are reminded of our journey and the milestones we have achieved together. The launch of these journals, the poetry book, and the opening of the NEU Museum are testaments to our commitment to academic excellence and cultural preservation. As we look forward to our 50th year, we remain steadfast in our mission to provide quality education and foster a culture of research and innovation.”

The event concluded with a tour of the newly opened museum, allowing attendees to explore the exhibits and reflect on the university’s enduring legacy. As NEU prepares to celebrate its golden anniversary, the institution continues to pave the way for future generations, upholding its tradition of excellence and scholarly achievement.
