New Era University (NEU) has reiterated its commitment to using the American Psychological Association (APA) Style as the standard for reporting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research across its academic departments and branches. This reaffirmation comes through Joint Memorandum No. 4, Series of 2024, recently issued by the university administration, which includes the Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of the Vice President for Administration, Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the University Research Center.
The memorandum highlights the continued implementation of APA Style, as outlined in the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. This standard has been a cornerstone of NEU’s research practices, ensuring uniformity and clarity in scholarly communication.
In line with the NEU Research Manual, the memorandum serves as both a reminder and an update to the research community. It emphasizes that APA Style is crucial for maintaining the quality and consistency of research outputs, including proposals, reports, presentations, and publications. The use of APA Style helps align NEU’s research practices with international standards, enhancing the readability and impact of scholarly work.
The memorandum includes tables of Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) for various research methodologies, such as quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research. These standards are intended to guide faculty and students in standardizing their research reports, thereby improving the overall quality and credibility of their work.
The university acknowledges the diversity of disciplines within its community. While strongly encouraging the use of APA Style, NEU allows departments with established alternative formats to continue using them, provided they submit their respective research manuals to the University Research Center. This approach ensures flexibility while maintaining a cohesive framework for research reporting.
